How it happens…

Demo 2 Design answers the question of what to do with discarded construction materials.  Staff performs a site visit with contractors or homeowners before demolition to identify reusable materials that can be diverted from filling up the landfill. Contractors deconstruct and set aside materials which we transport, store and market.

History…

In 2001, Carol originated Demo 2 Design as an alternative to wasteful disposal of construction material entering the landfill.  Her commitment to recycling spans 25 years including public education, municipal government, non-profit retail, public-private business partnership, and culminating with developing her own reuse business.

For eight years, Carol has been on the board of directors for The Sustainability Project, a non-profit organization advocating green building principles.  She is also a member of the Santa Barbara Contractors Association and the California Resource Recovery Association.  Her years of employment as a recycling specialist for the County of San Diego, as an environmental resource analyst for the County of Ventura, and with Santa Barbara’s Art From Scrap materials reuse store cultivated an extensive network of professionals from whom she continues to glean the tools necessary for nurturing the growth of this business.

Material sales initiated through a local Santa Barbara vintage thrift cooperative, “Cominichi’s,” and evolved to a tiny storefront in the historic downtown “International Dairy Cooperative,” a collection of artists and artisans.  In August, 2008, Carol hosted a grand opening at her current site at 4444 Hollister Ave. behind the local favorite watering hole, the Creekside Inn. 

Future…

In addition to providing reused materials, including salvaged and vintage lumber, Demo 2 Design offers creative custom design options incorporating these materials.  Our talented, experienced team works collaboratively with clients to develop functional art and spaces.
